From French allantoïde, and its source, Renaissance Latin allantoides, from Koine Greek ἀλλαντοειδής (allantoeidḗs, “sausage-shaped”), from Ancient Greek ἀλλᾶς (allâs, “sausage”). By surface analysis, allant- + -oid.
